Process for adoption

Our adoption procedure is simple. First come out to our shelter and visit with the animals. Our staff will be glad to answer any questions we can about individual animals. Once you have selected a prospective pet, there is an application you will be asked to complete. This application will help us make sure that the animal you have selected is the right pet to be a permanent member of your family.

Once you have completed the application, it will be reviewed by the next working day. At that time, if the animal is too young to have the altering surgery (spay or neuter), your new best friend can go home with you. If your new pet is old enough to have the surgery performed, we will arrange with a veterinarian to perfom the surgery. You will pick your pet up from the veterinarian the day after the surgery and after you have completed the paperwork at the shelter.

Adoption vaccinations/exams

Before you can take home your new friend, you must first fill out some paperwork and be approved as the new owner. The following must be taken care of first before you can adopt a pet from the Humane Society.

Your pet will have its basic vaccinations, be neutered/spayed with surgery performed by a local veterinarian. A certificate will be given for surgery if the pet is not old enough at the time of the adoption. When you adopt, you will be given a leash, collar, tag, and pet care books. The pet will also have a microchip. Follow-up vaccinations will be given in 30 days.
